When our adult sons moved into their own homes, I looked through the Bible for verses to pray over them. These Scriptures have blessed me as I prayed for them and for our own home, I hope it blesses you as well.
Read MoreThe movie War Room starring Priscilla Shirer and Karen Abercrombie left me wanting to be more intentional and diligent in my praying. I don’t have an actual war room or a prayer closet like Elizabeth and Clara in the movie. However, the large chair in the corner of our living room overlooking the window is my ‘war room’. Sometimes I pray as I walk in the park behind our house.
Read MoreAs I sit in the hospital cafeteria typing this, amid the hustle and bustle of the lunch crowd, I feel God’s presence. With the rays of sunshine through the window, I feel God’s presence. As I watch my newborn son on the webcam in his NICU room, I feel God’s presence. When I see my husband hold our son, I feel God’s presence.
Read MoreFor the past week, I have been waking up in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, for a few of these nights I could not go back to sleep for anything for several hours. I would make lists in my head about what I needed to do, think about work, think about the upcoming months, and eventually went to the living room to watch a show to try to help myself fall asleep.
Read MoreEach year I try to work on one heart attitude. This I have been doing for a couple of years now. I am a work in progress like all of us are, but this helps me to keep striving to the 365 mark even if I miss a day or more in between. One year I worked on complete honesty, the next year it was listening well and being 100% present where I am and in what I am doing. 365 days is a long time and by the end of it, the new attitude becomes a part of us.
Read MoreLord, we pray for the wedding coming up, for good health for all,
Pleasant weather, safety, and your presence in every part of the church and hall.
We pray for strength of body, heart, and mind for the elderly,
Joy and gladness for those who plan, arrange, and execute,
For wisdom, guidance, and your watchful eye over all,
“Help me do this right, Lord.”
This is the shortest prayer that has helped me on several occasions. What happens when we pray this? Suddenly there is calm and clarity. All at once, we realize that God is bigger than our problem. The situation does not magically change every time, (though sometimes it does) but almost instantly you change, your heart changes. You emerge as a strong, calm person. You have a restful heart.
Read MoreI’ve been thinking about prayer lately, how God has always been faithful with every yes and no. But the way He answers prayer always seems to be so different from the way I imagined He would. Lately, I have been reminded of God’s goodness in that.
Read MoreI pray you will be encouraged and uplifted as you build your own Quiet Time library and use it well. There is no particular pattern to follow when we meet with Jesus. We can relax with him, talk, read and listen.

Read MoreIn preparation of our July Tirzah in the Word, I wanted to challenge us to focus on a couple of topics to pray over this week. As you know, I, Alycia, highly enjoy our times of prayer and fasting as a global community. I have seen so many answered prayers over the years and so have many of you women from all over!
Read MoreIt is the story of one woman’s redemption. The story of a youth moved from home to home until a church found her a family. Continuing the story of a drug addicted woman. My heart was stirred reading about an unplanned pregnancy. Everything about Cristina’s story is a miracle - one continual long miracle.
Read MoreIt is in the in-between space where God wants to meet me. It’s the space where He wants to build something new in me, the space He wants to reveal a new truth about His nature to me. And while we journey through the unexpected circumstances in life, we can hinge our expectations on Him.
Read MoreWe all have our favorite clothes, right? The ones we can’t live without. Over the years my wardrobe has taken on a very new look. For the 56-year-old Grandma in me, I like the clothes I have now. Muted shades, mostly ¾ sleeves and easy to maintain.
Read MoreSomething I’ve recently realized is this: “Every ending is a beginning & every beginning is an ending.” What does this mean? When we start something new, it means another thing is finished. Like the covenant of marriage, singleness must end for marriage to begin and marriage must begin for singleness to end. Life is complex this way. Joy mixed with sorrow, sorrow mixed with joy. If you ever want to study the complexities of this more in-depth, study the book of Ecclesiastes as Solomon walks through the seasons of life.
Read MoreAs I watch the news headlines scroll across my television screen, I’m left in a state of helplessness and heartbreak over the lost lives and utter destruction taking place in Ukraine and across the globe. In the last few weeks of praying for the Ukraine/Russian war, the Lord continually reminded me that He is in control and has a purpose and a plan through even this sudden terror.
