What to Do When You Don't Know What to Do
What do you do when you don’t know what to do? Cry? Scream? Freak out? Hide away? Turn to social media or the internet for answers?
Life can be complicated and messy. Whether you are having trouble with a relationship, job, school, or something else, we are instructed not to turn to the world, but to the Lord. Maybe you are struggling with addiction, or attempting to mend a broken relationship, or struggling with a loved one’s death. God sees you. He hears you. You are not alone.
Maybe you are mending a relationship with a parent, struggling with infertility, trying to make rent, or need healing from a disease. You may feel like no one could possibly understand what you are going through. And you might be right. No other person on earth may understand how you feel, but God knows. God can help you make it through.
So what do you do when you don’t know what to do?
We used to sing a song at church called ‘God Will Make a Way’ by Don Moen. The lyrics went like this:
“God will make a way
Where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see
He will make a way for me
He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side
With love and strength for each new day
He will make a way, He will make a way”
Trust in God’s plan for your life. When you are unsure what to do, stop, take a breath, and say a prayer. Fix your eyes on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2). Talk to Him and let His peace engulf you. Also, figure out what you can do to help the situation, whatever that looks like. Maybe it is to be more empathetic in a relationship, or be more frugal with your finances. Maybe you need to reach out to someone you trust for help as well.
Abide in the Lord and abide in His love (John 15:4-11). Do not look to the world for answers, but look up. Our help comes from the Lord (Psalm 124:8). Ask your Heavenly Father to help you and guide you. When you don’t know what to do, He does.
