Finding God In The Middle of Your Routine

Finding+God+In+The+Middle+Of+Your+Routine

This blog post is inspired by the Orange Curriculum that my 10th grade girls are undergoing at this time. Our most recent series is Finding Rhythm. It made me think about my daily, weekly, monthly, yearly rhythm with God. Besides going to church every Sunday, and midweek on Wednesdays how do I find my rhythm with God? If one is seeking rhythm with God, how does one start?

Take Small Moments

Take small moments throughout the day to connect with God. This can bring major changes in your relationship with the Lord. Often, we wait for a specific time and place to connect with the Father, and we don’t realize that we can connect with him always, and at any time. A small prayer while driving, walking, thinking can often make large changes in the trajectory of our day, including changing a bad day into a good day.

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances for it is God’s will for you in Jesus Christ.”- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV)

The small moments you take to give God thanks, to abide in him, to ask for His grace, to lean into Him can bring major changes in your daily life.

Remember to Take Rest

“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work”.- Genesis 2:2 (NIV)

During the high school ministries series on Rhythm, it was stated that if the Lord who made the world stopped to take rest then what does that say about us? Rest is an important part of life, and doesn’t always mean sleeping. Resting in God means to obey God’s calling to do His will, His grace and trusting in His faith. Often we lose our rhythm with God because we forget to rest in Him, and instead take matters into our own hands. By failing to rest in God, we often drift further from Him and begin to feel restless.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” - Ephesians 2:8

Create Time to Purposefully Seek God

Finally, we forget to purposefully seek God. We get busy, restless, stressed out, and we forget to take, no, set, purposeful times each day to meet with God. We don’t notice how far away we have drifted, why we seem more stressed than normal, why things seem to have taken a turn until we remember. We remember that we haven’t been spending that purposeful time with the Father. The general busyness and stress of life crept into our daily time with God, and we never corrected it.

“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” - Psalm 105:4

“Set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God”- 1 Chronicles 22:19

Where can you set time today to seek God? Where have you been rushing? Are you restless? How is your daily rhythm?
