Do Not Worry

“And he said to his disciples, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food and the body more than clothing.”

-Luke 12:22-23 The English Standard Version

We are all susceptible to worry. “Do not be afraid.” Is written in the Bible 365 times, we have that promise for every day but still worry sneaks into our otherwise good day. Before we know it, we have run down the rabbit trail of worry, thinking of all the what-ifs.

What if someone I care about gets a cancer diagnosis?

What if all my friends leave me and I am alone?

What if I never find my person?

What if. What if. What if.

I think it’s human nature to want to control things and worry about the outcome. And God knew that we would each struggle with that when He created us, but He doesn’t leave us alone in our worry either. He says, ‘I am with you, and I am never going to leave you.’

“fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

-Isaiah 41:10 The English Standard Version

He walks with us through our worries, anxieties and concerns. There is not an anxiety, concern or worry too insignificant that He would not want to hear about. There are many places in Scripture that talk about His desire to be fully involved in the details of our lives.

Worrying is proof of a lack of trust in God. It is

A worry that I struggle with is that I have not found Mr. Right.

I am thirty. I thought he would be here by now. Back in my twenties, this was a big concern for me, but now I am trusting God to bring me that guy when we are both ready.  I choose to trust Him.

“but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
    they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
    they shall walk and not faint.”

-Isaiah 4:31 The English Standard Version

It would be so easy for me to worry over Mr. Right’s whereabouts, but I know God will reveal him to me when the time is right.

Build a trust with God. I built my confident trust in God through many prayers and believing if it doesn’t work out, He is still good.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

-Romans 8:28 The English Standard Version

He knows what He is doing, who are we to question His moves?

Through prayer, let’s build a trust that secures us in Christ and hope that He is holding your hand through the chaos.
