Summer Brings New

When was the last time you tried something new?

New is not bad, it is an unknown. New is different. Different can be scary. For me, I would rather stick to what I know, things I have done before, meals I have eaten.

God created us to be different, to go against the world.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

-Romans 12:2 NIV

If we are created to be different, we should jump at the new opportunities in front of us. However, we are not. Fear is what is stopping us; we would rather push someone else into something new, and we will stick with what we are comfortable with. We like the easy, comfy life, but following Jesus does not guarantee our life will be easy.

God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power. We can welcome the new with open arms. I am a big believer, that God gives us comfort zones to pull us out of them. That means it will be uncomfortable, but it will be worth it.

Summer is a new season with a new set of opportunities to try something new. We need to be ready to welcome the new with open arms.

These days I am trying new things, stepping out of what I know and being bold.

When the barista asked me what kind of bagel I would like, I slipped back into what I knew and asked for a cinnamon-raisin bagel. Then I thought about trying new and changed my mind. That everything bagel hit the spot and was just what I needed. Start trying new things in little ways. Slow and steady wins the race.

New is full of excitement, you should try it!
