Growing Roses
One of the topics close to my heart is singleness. I feel for all the single ladies cause that is the path I am walking as well. I can relate to feeling lonely for someone we haven’t met yet, the fear of wondering if we’ll ever get married, to the pain of “why can’t that be me”? I am twenty-five years old, I have never received flowers from a guy, been on a date, or been kissed.
“The grass withers and flower fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”-Isaiah 40:8 NLT
The desires of our hearts were planted there by God and they will happen. It just may require waiting. Delighting in the Lord sometimes means waiting. Singleness is a waiting season, but more than waiting God is growing you. In every season we walk through there is a growing lesson behind it.
“Sometimes when you’re in a dark place, you think you’ve been buried, but you’ve actually been planted.”-Christine Caine
If this finds you in a dark place, “who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 ESV). Maybe you have been planted there for a reason. Root systems interest me; they strengthen the massive Georgia pines around my house, and they feed the delicate rose bush.
Imagine your heart is a rose, if not treated carefully they will both fall apart. Fallen roses/broken hearts are not conducive to spiritual growth. Roses are a deep-rooted plant, in the same way, your heart needs to be deeply rooted in the word of God. That way, when something happens to rock your foundation, you will have a sure anchor for your hope.
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes.
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”-Jeremiah 17:7-8 NIV
Make sure your roots are deep into the living water of God’s Word. If your roots, your confidence, is running into the current guy you are dating, that could be a recipe for disaster. Men on earth will fail us, but our hope in Jesus Christ will never fail.
"Deep in your hearts, you know that every promise of the Lord your God has come true. Not a single one has failed!"- Joshua 23:14 NLT
That verse is my life verse. It reminds me that what God has promised, He will do. I believe the desires of my heart will happen, it just may take some time. That waiting is not worthless. It's a growing time. My one requirement for my Prince Charming is he has to be so wrapped up in God that I have to seek Him to find him. Keep looking to Jesus, my friends, He will lead you to what is best for you. He is the anchor you want for your hope and dreams.
