Surrendering Singleness

War movies take me back to childhood.

Growing up with two brothers I have seen my fair share. I always loved it when one combatant flew a white flag. A white flag signals surrender. To end the fighting. Lay down of arms.

I have been on the hunt for my future husband for the past decade. I’ve been looking, then God spoke an important truth over my heart,

“You don’t need to worry about finding a future husband, you are already a bride.”

When I heard that I quickly grabbed my journal. I didn’t want to forget that nugget.

Thus began a surrendering of my singleness. A surrender of how I thought my life would look like right now. Surrender to some people may seem like the coward’s way out. However, when we surrender to the cross it’s not cowardly, but courageous.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, or the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9 ESV

So, here I am waving the white flag of surrender over my singleness. The flag that means you can take this from me. It’s too much for me to carry.

“Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and I give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NLT

I did not realize what a heavy burden it was, searching for my future guy. My whole life had been caught up in the hunt and I must say it freeing now not to worry about it. The truth is the man that I like and think is God’s gift to me will pale in comparison to whom God has for me.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above….”

James 1:17a

I may be laying down my weapons, but I am not giving up hope.

Hope that one day, I will find the man God has for me. Hope that my wedding day will happen. Hope that I will love someone for the rest of my life on earth.

As believers, we live and breathe hope. When the hope goes out of our sails, we feel defeated and alone. But we are never alone. He walks with us in our pain. Through every dark night, He is there showing us the light.

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105 KJV

My advice to all you single ladies is simple: DON’T GIVE UP HOPE

When we lose all hope, we have nothing left. Hope is what gives us the strive to survive.

I know how lonely singleness is and something I do to keep the loneliness at bay. Is I write my future husband letters. No joke I have an envelope full of letters for him to read one day.

Keep praying for your future mate. You may not see him, but with prayer things change.

Here is something I am hoping to start in 2023,  is gain guy friends, with no strings attached. This is going to be hard for me. For so long, I have looked at guys through a romantic lens, but I am up for a challenge.

Ecclesiastes 4:9 NIV says “ Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor.” When we read that verse, we think of two being better than one in marriage. However, that verse can also mean friendship. Friendship is one of life’s many blessings, but just imagine what blessings we might be missing out on because we don’t have guy friends?

I’m right there with you the only guy friends I have are my brothers and they have to like me. Here’s to getting more guy friends in 2023!

Don’t lose hope, friend! Hope is all we have!
