Staying Inspired For Creativity

I consider myself to be a creative soul. I have been doing some form of art from a very young age, including drawing, painting, photography, interior design, graphics, writing, and anything else I could get my hands on to create. I believe it’s the way God created us to be: creative. After all, He is the Greatest Creator of all time, and He created us.

So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:27

It’s easy to lose focus or stop tapping into our creativeness when our schedules get bombarded with commitments that must be kept. We get caught up in our jobs, making deadlines, and meeting the needs of our boss. Now don’t get me wrong, all of these things are the responsible thing to do, and it’s great to have a job that you’re committed to. But sometimes work doesn’t always stay at work. All too often it bleeds into other areas of our lives and becomes our main focus.

Although you may have been hired because of your gifts, talents, and creativity, if your employer doesn’t inspire a spirit of teamwork and collaboration, over time you might realize that the things you were hired for aren’t being used for your benefit. They are being used to build someone else’s dreams and visions, and you are the one helping to make it happen. The problem isn’t having a job and helping someone build their dream. The problem is when you stop dreaming dreams for yourself.

That’s where I found myself. I was in an environment that wasn’t conducive for growth or change. I don’t know about you, but for a creative person that is full of ideas, that felt like a death sentence for dreaming. Needless to say, I no longer work there. After I left, it was only a matter of time until my heart and mind began stirring with creativity once again, and I have never felt more alive!

Friend, freedom is what God wants for your life. Freedom to be you in all of your unique and creative ways. 2 Corinthians 3:17 even says, “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Creativity can be expressed in so many different forms, and God designed you to be uniquely you with all of the gifts and talents that He created you to have. There is none like you, and what you bring to the table is important to Him, His kingdom, and to others. The world needs you and your creative soul.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.

Romans 12:6

Maybe you have found yourself in the same situation I was – in a stable environment with no change or growth, wondering how to dream anymore. I can’t answer the questions in your mind towards your current situation, but I know who can, and His name is Jesus.

A Prayer for Creativity

Lord, I thank you for how You created each of us to be uniquely us. You have given us gifts, talents, and a heart and mind to be creative like You, our Creator. I ask that you would stir my heart once again with dreams, visions, and ideas that would be used to glorify You and Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
