Modern Day Saints: Following God's Will
Maybe you are new to Tirzah and don’t know how it was founded. So…let me take you all the way back! My dear friend, Yelena, wanted some friends. She wanted to know there were other girls with big dreams for God. And, she found that in abundance. For years now, girls from all over the world have emailed, shared stories on social media, and written blog posts about what God is doing in their life. That is a modern day saint - any girl who is simply trying to do the next right thing for God.
So, I want to tell you about my friend Mels. The picture above is from one of the very first events I went to with her. It was taken three years ago. During that time, I had been praying that God would bring young women (because, for some reason, I could always find young men) who wanted to follow Jesus and help others find them. One day, I saw about this girl named Mels and her podcast CWG (Conversations with God).
She started creating event invites on social media - and inviting people into the most fun events for young women. We had a Christmas pajama party with charcuterie boards. Then, there was this day. We did a photo shoot and worship and prayer session at the lake front. It turned out Mels lived only 10 minutes from where I was. And, it turned out there were tons of young women just waiting for an invitation.
One young woman’s faithfulness to invite other young women off the internet into her life - led to a packed house in a young women’s conference this summer in Wisconsin. Every single time I have had the privilege of being with Mels or going to one of her events, I have felt hope for women from an area in Milwaukee where people say there isn’t a lot of hope. She goes into an area full of poverty and despair - and shows how much light there still is.
This doesn’t happen by preaching on street corners or wandering the streets (although these can be good too). It happens in her intentionality to build up being a Godly woman. Events filled with reading Scripture - while also learning to value the body God gave you. Private social media threads uplifting and encouraging one another in prayer. Creating photo shoots so that every girl feels like they can dress up and be confident with the body they are in now. Speaking joy and encouragement over others. Those are all signs of a modern day saint.
I’m grateful for the season I had in Wisconsin with Mels. I will forever be grateful for that answered prayer. May this story remind you that God can take your little and do much. Maybe God is calling you to invite your friends to a picnic in the park. You could create a flier and invite other ladies to come along and bring their Bibles on social media. There are so many opportunities to reach other women and show God’s love to them. Consider how God might use you and your little to bring a lot of fruit for His Kingdom.
