Media Matters: Part 10

Throughout this year, we’ve discussed both the ups and downs of social media. For this month, I actually wanted to share two videos that really address a lot of how social media shapes culture. For those who don’t know, I grew up in a predominantly black community.

Many don’t know this, but my faith has been greatly shaped by the black community. When I officially surrendered and chose Jesus, it was in prayer alongside a black woman. My mom’s best friend, during my growing up years, was a black woman who championed my education and how quickly I learned. When I left the church, it was a black woman who invited me to a Bible study and taught me to truly believe I could hear from God. I could continue on and on, but wanted to highlight, while race isn’t the main thing, it’s something that shaped my own life very personally. And, in my choice, of people who influence my life online - you’ll see that continues today.

Recently, I was going through YouTube and watching episodes from prominent Christian thought leaders on issues going on in our day. These two episodes by two men I’ve followed for years were really impactful to me on current events. I am not saying you should agree with them or everything they say. I rarely agree with everything any individual says all of the time. However, these two episodes were very impactful thoughts on how to handle culture and media.
