Maturity

Hello to you all. Today, I want to talk about being mature in your faith. The definition of spiritual maturity is the ability to view things from God's perspective and to have a Biblical lens. The Bible tells us not to just listen to what people say, but to seek God’s words and pray to see how God Himself would handle a situation

Humility, considering others more important than yourself, is a quality of being like Jesus Christ. The goal of spiritual maturity is to be more like Christ. Here are some qualities that are part of being humble:

  • Service: Being willing to uplift and serve others

  • Obedience: Following God's commands

  • Self-discipline: Living a life of self-control

  • Prayer: Being in a spirit of prayer

  • Faithfulness: Being faithful to God.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.”

2 Peter 3:18

Growing in grace is part of being mature in your faith. Jesus gave grace to us on that cross when we didn't even deserve the grace.  Ephesians 4:13-16 (the goal of growing to maturity and becoming more like Christ), Hebrews 5:12-14 (the need to move from basic teachings to deeper understanding as a sign of maturity), 2 Peter 1:5-8 (the process of adding virtues like goodness, knowledge, and self-control to achieve maturity), and 1 Corinthians 13:11 (comparing spiritual growth to a child maturing into adulthood) are great verses of Scripture to help you grow in grace.

“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.”

1 Peter 2:2

When we first accept Christ, we are like newborns who crave milk. As we grow in our faith, the more mature we will be. Some key points from the verses I mentioned are the importance of growing in Christ and that the ultimate goal for spiritual maturity is to resemble Christ in our actions and character, mature believers distinguish between right and wrong and have a deeper understanding of scripture, and that spiritual maturity is an ongoing process that requires intentional effort to learn, grow, and apply Scripture.

Prayer

Lord, I pray you help us grow in maturity with You, Lord, and help us be more Christ-like in our actions and character.

Amen
