God Listens When We Pray
I am living the prayers I once prayed; I am living the proof that God does listen when we pray.
“Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.”
-Jeremiah 33:3 New Living Translation
The man I am dating is a compilation of all those prayers. Even the things I did not write down or say aloud, the things I only held in my heart, Mr. Wonderful does.
I feel like I do not deserve someone as sweet, gentle, loving, and respectful as he is.
For fifteen years, I believed the lie that I did not deserve any one good based on my past. My past isn’t perfect, but whose is? My past includes pornography and painful memories, but that did not exclude me from finding someone who treats me better than I have ever been cared for before.
I was looking through old notes on my phone. I do not even remember now what I was looking for but I found this one written February 13, 2025, on yet another single Valentine’s Day.
‘God will bring me a Valentine in His perfect timing.
“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.”
-Zephaniah 3:17 NLT’
I had no idea that in a years’ time, I would go on a date with a man for Valentine’s Day. God does listen when we pray; the proof may take some time to show up, but I promise you He is working through our waiting.
“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.”
-Isaiah 40:31 New Living Translation
That verse was one I held on to during those single years. I never lost faith that God would come through for me, and He did more than I could ask or imagine.
“God can do anything, you know- far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.”
-Ephesians 3:20 The Message paraphrase
He can do ANYTHING. I thought I would be married by now, but I met Mr. Wonderful right when He had ordained it. He really does have a time and a season for everything.
“We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
-Proverbs 16:9 New Living Translation
I believe as women we put ourselves on a timeline. We want to have our own career at this age, be married at by 20 age, and have kids when we reach this age.
Meanwhile, God is up in Heaven looking at our life plan, just chuckling. Have you ever heard if you want to make God laugh tell him your plans?
My parents and I spent some time in the North Carolina mountains; we took one of those mountain roads that takes you on S curves and that can be like God’s plan for our life. It may take us a different route than what we thought, but the destination in His plan is to give us the desires of our heart, even desires that we may have given up on having.
I spent the better part of fifteen years walking the path of singleness, praying for someone just like the man I am dating. God does listen when we pray, it may not show up when we thought, but it will show up when we need it.
