Everything NEW- A Word Study

Once every month in 2023 we at Tirzah will have a word study for you. You will need a journal and pen to complete it. It can be done at your own pace and you can decide the depth of the study.

Day 1

So we have hung up our new calendar for the year and have decided to start a few good habits (or at least one) in 2023. We have spent December 31st thanking God for the blessings of 2022 and our hearts are full of praise and thanks to God. As the new year dawns, we are glad but with it we draw a curtain on the unknown. The blank fresh dates on the calendar will soon get filled up. But for now, it is empty and blank.

  • What words come to mind when you think of the word NEW? A newborn baby, your new car, a new pair of jeans, or the new job you are about to start? Make a list.

  • If you know more than one language, write out the word in other languages in your journal.

  • Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 in your Bible and fill in the blanks.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a ………….creation, the ………..has gone, the ………….has come.”

  • Are you a new creation in Christ?

  • What changes have you seen in yourself over the past few years as a person in Christ

Day 2

Lamentations 3:23 tells us that God’s ……………are new every morning.

  • Write the verse down in full from the NIV and from the Message translation.

  • What is the meaning of the word mercy?

  • Spend time in prayer thanking God for his fresh batch of mercy each day.

  • Where in your life do you need his mercy today?

Day 3

  • Ephesians 4:22-24 are referred to as sandwich verses. Draw a sandwich in your journal and write the 3 verses one each in the top , bottom and the filling of the sandwich.

  • Write the summary of the verses by the side.

  • Verse 23 says that we will have a new………………

  • Meditate on the verse and spend time in prayer.

Day 4

  • Read Colossians 3;9-10 and write it in your own words.

  • How do these verses describe the new us?

DAY 5

  • Read Ezekiel 18:31 in the Good News Version.

  • In Psalm 98:1 we sing to the Lord a …………………

  • Why do we sing according to the verse?

  • Ponder these thoughts as you go about your day.

DAY 6

  • Go through all the verses above. If you want to, find 2 more verses with the word new.

  • To end your study, you may want to do one or all of these:

    • Choose 1 verse to meditate on. Write it on a card and put it up on your fridge.

    • What is your takeaway from this study? Share it with a friend over coffee.

    • Write a prayer using the words from one of the verses from this study.
