Do Your Thoughts Impact Your Destiny?

We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!
— ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:10‬

Let’s put this verse on repeat!‬ We can get so easily caught in a loop of listening to the lies in our own minds:

I’m not good enough.

[Or even] I’m too good.

Too tall. Too short.

Too thin. Too fat.

Not educated enough.

I don’t qualify.

I don’t fit in.

I’m scared or nervous.

They won’t like me.

What will they think?

Who are we to allow that loop to shuffle in our minds when God says otherwise? To be very honest with you, at the end of the day, you are the only one thinking these thoughts about you! Your friends and family love you and they are not thinking about you like you’re thinking about you. They have their own playlist of thoughts looping in their own mind and they don’t have time for yours too. Also regarding everyone else outside of family and friends, do they really matter enough for you to allow them limiting you? The you God has destined to be!

We all have  playlists in our heads, good or bad. If you’ve let these types of thoughts creep in, take them captive. Look at Ephesians 2:10 again… I will wait.

We have become his poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny he has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!” -‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:10

Note this part: “God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it?” Doesn’t it say “we”? It means we play a role in how things go down. I didn’t say that it’s all in our control and we make it all happen, but we do have a part in how our destiny is played out.

“You saw who you created me to be before I became me! Before I’d ever seen the light of day, the number of days you planned for me were already recorded in your book. Every single moment you are thinking of me! How precious and wonderful to consider that you cherish me constantly in your every thought! O God, your desires toward me are more than the grains of sand on every shore! When I awake each morning, you’re still with me.” -Psalm 139:16-18

So, seriously, get out of your own head! It’s time to stop giving these thoughts so much credit. Start thinking God’s thoughts and you will be free from the bondage of negative thoughts. Look to His word - the unwavering, unchanging truth - before you listen to anyone or anything else. Write it on your heart and recite it to yourself often. Most of all, ask the Lord to renew your mind.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. -Romans 12:2

Lord, I need your help. I’ve let this loop of thoughts play in my mind for too long and they are not thoughts You have for me. Forgive me for not giving you enough credit. Help me to take my thoughts captive until I live a life believing in who You say I am!
