5 Minutes
We finished our dinner and the dishes were done. As I was wiping down the counter top I made a list of my thank you’s to Jesus. I then took my gratitude journal and jotted them down.
It took just 5 minutes a day but it was so worth it. It filled our home with gratitude and praise at the end of a busy work day.
“God is good and all that he does is good.”
-Psalm 119:66
Having an appetite for goodness is a great way to live!
I was putting off playing hymns on the piano, it was the same excuse, ‘I just had no time’. Last year I decided to set aside 5 minutes before work, to play a couple of songs. I got ready at 8am and went to my piano. I played before I left for work. This has been magical.
Take my moments and my days
Let them flow in ceaseless praise
Is there an activity, chore or hobby which you could start, revive or create by setting aside 5 minutes? In our small garden we have a lemon tree which is having an abundance of the vitamin C rich yellow beauties. Each day I set aside a couple of minutes, yes 5, to bag 6 of them and give them to neighbours or pack them for someone at my workplace. Over the last 2 weeks, 5 minutes a day, 84 lemons!
“You can always find time to do the thing you really really want to do.”
-Emily Rodda
Here are some 5 minute ideas to try out:
Arrange garden fresh flowers in a jar/ vase /repotting a garden plant
Texting a friend or sister with a message of hope
Writing an encouraging note for your pastor / Bible Study leader
Memorizing a verse a week.
You can write it out on day 1, sing it to a tune on day 2, draw it out on day 3 , pray the verse on day 4 and every other day of the week use the 5 min to share the verse with your sister or friend.
Read an article from Tirzahmag and journal the verses.
Reading a page of a book by Liz Curtis, Max Lucado or C S Lewis with good, sound teaching
Listen to J John’s One minute sermon on Youtube and note down what you have learnt.
Walking up and down your stairs as a 5 min exercise routine.
The ‘I have no time’ excuse can never be used now. As you start a new month, choose one 5 minute activity to add to your day.
Have you ever thought you had no time for scheduled prayer? Has a time of Bible study daily been daunting? Set your alarm, start with 5 minutes.
“The Lord keeps revealing His secrets to those who are diligent about studying the Word. Don’t be the person who always settles for living off someone else’s revelation. Study the Bible for yourself, and allow the Holy Spirit to bless your life with truth.”
-Joyce Meyer
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.”
-Ecclesiastes 3:1
Before you make your 5 minute decision here are a few lines from Andrea Biue from an article published here earlier:
“Of all the things we do daily, reading the Bible, spending time with God, and worshiping Him are more important than anything else. Only these things are eternal, and only these things are truly trustworthy and give protection and purpose. “
