5 Articles For The Girl Who's Uneasy
Hi.
I don’t know about you, but the last few days have been a little tense for me. I’m writing this as I watch the American election unfold from my California couch, and I’m struggling through a range of emotions.
And I believe Jesus is still king, and my eternity is secured no matter who wins our presidential election. But, still, the tension of unrest is palpable.
As an editor of Tirzah, I wanted to offer something to others like me. The girl who has the election updates tab open in the background of her computer. The girl beginning to wonder what changes will come to her world in the next four years. The girl trying not to care, trying not to be invested, but still wondering. Where will this election lead us? What is God planning for the nation?
If that sounds familiar, here are five spiritual reminders for your heart and mind to digest through the waiting.
When Your Heart Is Overwhelmed
“As I drove to work, fog encased my vehicle. It was difficult to see the brake lights of the truck in front of me. That is when God reminded me - just like fog causing difficulty to see in front of me, the future is unclear. But in these circumstances, driving in the fog and in our current national state, I know Who is in control and Who can see clearly.”
A Reminder When Negativity Takes Root
“This past year, I was resurfacing from one of those seasons. I moved to a new city for a new job and I no longer felt like I was treading water. Even with new beginnings though, plot twists and disappointments still occur. Whether it’s the unmet expectations during the holidays, stress over finances, or the multiple other decisions on our plates at any given moment. Life happens and yes, it won’t always be fair. Regardless, why not remind ourselves that we don’t have to stay in the negativity? We can choose joy even when we feel something entirely different.”
Having Hope When The Answers Fall Through
“As I sat in my room one morning, thinking about the past year and looking forward to 2020, I couldn't help but think of a few things left undone. I am a person who prefers to not have loose ends. I like for everything to have a period or an exclamation point. But what happens when you’re left with question marks?”
Living In Between: Seasons Of Transition
“We’re always on the way to someplace or something or someone. Our sights are always set on what’s next. We channel our energy and time into getting through whatever is going on right now so that we can get to that. It’s getting through the Tuesdays and Wednesdays of life to get to the Saturdays and Sundays. But what if God wants us to savor those Tuesdays and Wednesdays, those times of “in between”?”
Speak Life
“We all pictured 2020 to look a little different than this. As we’ve all been watching the news for weeks now, this pandemic has unfolded right in front of our eyes. Never, did it cross our minds that part of 2020 would be spent quarantined at home. As we watch the news from home, all we see is death and suffering. You start to wonder, when will this all end? Fear and worries come to our minds because you can’t help but start thinking what the future will look like. Where are we heading after this?”
These were all written from different times and circumstances, but their truths still deeply apply. Even in the temptation to obsess over the election numbers, or numb yourself to the news entirely, take a moment to recognize the uniqueness of these days.
Hang in there, girl. Don’t let your heart become weary in this wait. Answers may come tomorrow or in a month. But there is faith, there is growth, there is life within the space right now. While our nation wrestles through the anticipation, wrestle through the goodness of a prevailing God, who already knows the outcome.
How are you doing this week? Where can you lean into Christ today?
