Your Kingdom Come
We’ve got a responsibility as artists, creatives, writers and the like to handle the Great Commission with care.
So what are we doing about it?
As an introverted believer it’s easy sometimes for me, to sit on the sidelines and make up excuses: “Well, she’s got the smooth singing voice, and he’s got the gift to preach and public speak. But me? Sure I can speak, even teach, but my words are only eloquent on paper. . . God couldn’t, wouldn’t use me.”
A lie from the Enemy, and it’s often how he gets to us. We play the comparison game when we should be more focused on telling others the good news.
“For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.”- 1 Corinthians 12:12-18
Do you see it? Each member of the body has its own part to play so our vessel can function the proper way God designed. So it should be with spiritual gifts! God fashioned a spiritual gift in each of us before we were even born. We’ve really got no excuse for not telling people the good news! If you’re a skilled sculptor, painter, artist, you’ve got ministries to create! One of these days, the trumpet will sound, and we will be responsible for what we’ve done in the time given.
I was saved when I was twenty two. A writer since twelve, ironically, writing devotionals before truly understanding what I was even talking about. Hey kettle, meet the color black! Isn’t it sweet how God prepares the called before He calls them? How could I be ready for where I am today as a writer had I not been pruned, molded, working quietly all those years before? Looking back, I’m so thankful God did not answer my heart cries back then. The Master Potter knows the best time for dreams not quite realized until due season. We only need to trust Him.
I remember all the time I spent writing devotionals and Bible studies years ago and how nervous I was. Countless blogs and endless rewrites.
My writing was shaky, messy, and to be honest, not great. But God used me, even though I wasn’t confident. If you’re starting out, and you feel the same way, I encourage you to keep going!
Keep writing, keep speaking, and keep trusting the Lord’s timing. Seeds will be watered in the proper season, He only needs our willingness to be used. We can’t allow attitudes of “what if I’m simply not good enough?” to deter us in our ability in service for Christ. Remember Moses?
“Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.
And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.
And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt.”-Exodus 3:6-16
We know in later chapters grace was given to Moses so he could do what God commanded of him.
It’s the same with us, if God gave the gift coupled with the command, He will give us the grace to do what He calls us to. It’s best to simply obey with a surrendered heart! He can, and will do, so much through us if we allow Him!
Here am I! Send me!
Are you willing? People need the Lord! Will you answer the call be used by him? The choice is yours.
