Perspective on the Recent Supreme Court Ruling
Imagine for a moment, two women, both of similar socioeconomic backgrounds and both unexpectedly pregnant. Today is a scary, life-altering day for them. At 24 weeks of pregnancy, both mothers learned of their baby’s gender four weeks ago, and could have heard their baby’s heart beating 18 weeks ago. The women and babies will undergo procedures performed today by physicians who took the Hippocratic oath to “do no harm.”
When the procedures begin, both babies squirm and move in their mother’s wombs, afraid of the medical instruments coming toward them, as they have been able to feel pain for 12 weeks. One baby will most likely have a much better quality of life due to the in utero procedure performed today, the other baby will not live another day.
Scientific evidence has proven that life begins at conception. This is not a time for confusion or compromise. As Christians, we cannot stand for abortion. How much longer will we stay silent? Do not be manipulated into thinking abortion is something it isn’t. Do not let secular thinking take hold. Abortion has been dressed up as “women’s rights” and “healthcare” instead of what it is - legalized murder. It is not “your body” you are making decisions for, but the body of another human being.
The Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overrules Roe and Casey. “The Constitution does not confer to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives.” Abortion has not been outlawed all together, but those decisions have been given back to the states, as it should be. Justice Alito, who wrote the opinion, even stated “Roe was also egregiously wrong on a collision course with the Constitution from the day it was decided.”
This is not a politically charged or religiously motivated decision. Abortion was never a constitutional right; and praise God, we have Supreme Court justices who interpreted the Constitution correctly.
While this may not have been a political decision for the Court, how are you making the decision in regards to abortion? Is it a political stance or a moral one? Whether right or left, you need to determine where God stands regarding this issue. To find that answer, we must look at the Bible.
Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice. Proverbs 31:8-9

Let us not lose another baby who could be a King David, Queen Ester, or prophet Elijah.
You can lovingly and respectfully have a discussion with someone who disagrees. We need to pray for those who are angered by this decision. I also pray for the women who may have contemplated abortion or had an abortion performed in the past and now feel attacked. If this is you, please know God is a God full of grace, love, and forgiveness. The Lord’s love never ceases and His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Today, I pray for the ones who are struggling with difficult conversations and struggling with difficult decisions. I pray for those who oppose letting innocent human beings live, and God would soften their hearts to change.
I pray that now, more than ever, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus. Families, women, and children will need us. Find out how you can get involved with a local pregnancy center and how your church can help, if not already doing so. Cultivate and strengthen relationships. Above all, love people and show them Jesus.
