When Your Life is at an Impasse

While waiting for your breakthrough, when you know you cannot make progress by yourself when you desperately need God to change things around you; what do you do in the meantime? We often find ourselves complaining and murmuring, fixing our eyes on the situation instead of God’s faithfulness.

Psalms 27: 14 says, “wait on the Lord; be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the Lord”. (KJV)

Does waiting mean remaining idle? Not at all. Waiting does not mean wasting our time by doing anything. It’s an active process. So, what then should be our posture while we wait?

In Psalms 77:6 we read, I call to remembrance my song in the night; I meditate within

my heart, and my spirit makes diligent search. (NKJV)

Verses 10-12 say, And I said,

“This is my anguish, But I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.” I will remember the works of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. I will also meditate on all Your work, And talk of Your deeds.

Call to remembrance your song of victory, a song of praise that God puts on your heart. Commune with your heart. Don’t let your heart tell you you’re hopeless or in a fix. Commune with your heart about the faithfulness of God in the past; His miracles and wonders unto you. Meditate on all His works and talk of all His doings while you wait. Let His praise always be on your lips while you wait.

Where you see mountains, He sees a way. Where you see a wilderness, He sees rivers and springs of water. Where you see a desert, He sees the pine trees and cedars flourish. Nothing is impossible with HIM.

I recall when I had to return to my home country India, after graduation, for my medical screening exam. It was in August of 2020 when all airports were closed due to covid. My exam was on the 21 st of August. A week into the month and yet no news of any flights. Amidst all uncertainties, the Lord spoke that in 2 weeks’ time I would reach my home city, Chennai for home quarantine (for we had to quarantine ourselves in the capital city, Delhi, where all evacuation flights usually landed). So, I was expecting a flight to Chennai, but the Lord led me to take a flight to Delhi. I booked my flight and 4 days prior to departure He asked me to get my PCR test done (PCR is valid only for 3 days). It seemed like my PCR report would be invalid in Delhi. I was very confused yet trusted Him and obeyed. The next day, we heard that the Indian government had relaxed its rules and approved home quarantine and that we could apply for it with a PCR report. My report was ready by then, so I could apply and got the approval exactly a day before departure. I landed in Chennai with no hassle and later learned that my fellow mates had a rough journey because they couldn’t get an approval on time, for they had applied for their PCR tests 3 days before departure. I felt like the Lord Himself escorted me all my way home.

I will open rivers in desolate heights, And fountains in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water, And the dry land springs of water. - Isaiah 41:19 (NKJV)

He is indeed a wonder working God. So, when in an impossible situation, keep praising Him. Never grow weary in praise. Meditate on His faithfulness in the past.
