Answering the Call
Nursing was my dream. I had worked so hard to become a nurse, and was blessed with the most amazing jobs: Labor and Delivery Nurse & Forensic Nurse. I woke up everyday so grateful to serve my community in this manner, and I was so honored that God chose me for that profession.
I imagined that I would be working as a nurse for 10+ years while I did ministry on the side. The plan made sense to me, but God had other plans, and we know that His are always far better than ours.
One day in December of 2021, as I drove home from work, I had the thought pass through my head, “I don’t think I’ll be doing this much longer”. By “this” I meant, working as a nurse. I thought I was going crazy. WHAT? Why wouldn’t I be working as a nurse? I love my profession!
When that thought came, I immediately brushed it off. I just assumed that I needed to take a break from the job, so I took the next couple days that I wasn’t working to rest and relax–that would fix things, right?
Wrong. The thought kept gnawing at me. What would I be doing if not nursing?
The top of the year came and so as I normally do in January, I fasted. I knew that I needed to get clarity on my career. The more I began to pray and seek the Lord, the more revelation I received. I sought wise counsel in this time as well, and then the final confirmation was the Lord Himself.
I was praying in my prayer closet one day and I heard Him say “Leave nursing completely”.
WHAT?
My jaw dropped to the floor. I knew what I heard. I knew I felt peace. He made it plain and clear.
Through more prayer, I got all my instructions–even down to when my last day would be.
I knew what I had to do, no matter how much of a LEAP of faith this would be.
To be continued….
