Am I Invisible?

woman sitting in field.

Susan entered the café and her eyes scanned the room looking for Reya the birthday girl.

The crowded space and the chatter of people made her feel invisible.

Stella sat sipping tea in the balcony of their 17th floor apartment in New York. She had moved in with her son and daughter in law after her husband Joash had passed away. A tear slipped into her hot tea. She had felt that her words fell on deaf ears when she tried to join the conversation in the lounge. They were all busy with their own devices so she had escaped to the quiet of this space.

Stella felt invisible.

Reena finished her work in the kitchen and joined Dev on the couch- ‘Look at this’ she said in excitement showing Dev the patchwork cushion cover she had completed. Dev continued to change channels and said a weak ‘That’s good’.

‘Am I invisible?’ She asked herself as she went to the bedroom to check on Neha who was now fast asleep.

Anna entered the staff room. She looked all around and smiled. Most of the teachers seemed busy in their own little groups. She sat down and opened her lunch box. Her cold sandwiches added to the coldness in the air.

Am I invisible?’ she thought to herself as she stared out the window.

Renu came home from school to find her mother and her step dad at the dining table. She was waiting to talk to them about her day but the conversation never gave her a chance.

She felt invisible. She quietly left the room.

Have you ever felt small and invisible- at home, among friends, at church or at work? I know I have.

Look at what God’s word says about you and me:

Ephesians 2:10 NIV

We are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Philippians 1:6b NIV

He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Colossians 3:3NIV says we are hidden with Christ in God.

Apply it to yourself:

When I feel invisible, I get my Bible, my journal, a pen and sit in the quiet and read these verses out aloud from my Bible. I read and write them in a couple of different versions and in Tamil, my home language.

I write the verse using my name in it or by writing the verse using the words and me.

Ephesians 2:10 re-written would look like this:

I am God’s workmanship.

I am created in Christ Jesus.

I am created to do good works which God prepared in advance for me to do.

 Philippians 1:6b re-written would read:

He who began a good work in Shoba will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

Pray:

I thank God for loving me as if I was all he had to love. I get the energy I need to go back to my various roles as wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, teacher, friend and church member.

Your turn!
