Letter From the Editor + Our Top 10 Articles of 2020

Happy New Year, sisters!

We hope you had a restful and blessed Christmas holiday. Recently, the world gladly ushered 2020 out and entered 2021 hopeful that in the coming year things will be different and that we’ll all go back to “normal.”

But although our calendars changed years, for most people, life today looks a lot like what it did in December 2020: COVID-19 and political unrest still capture most of the headlines, many people are still working remotely or living under lockdown orders, travel is restricted to most parts of the world, and for some, worshiping with other believers is still only available via live stream. And no one can quite tell us when all this will end.

Yet, as Christians, we cling to this hope: our God is still on the throne and none of this is a surprise to Him or too much for Him. This is the God we call “Father,”; the One who promised us that this too shall pass (Rev. 21:1), because this is not our home and we’re bound for eternity (John 5:24).

So, we have no fear of a pandemic or political unrest; nor we do not fall into despair or lose hope when we look to the coming year. Instead, we turn our eyes to Jesus, because that is where our peace and joy is found.

With that in mind, we want to be more intentional with our content at Tirzah in the coming year - to go deeper into the Word with you and to serve you well. Many of you have been with us for years and as your life seasons change, we want to grow with you and encourage you in Christ where you are today and in the current life seasons.

We’re still praying through exactly how to do this, so please be patient with us for a few more weeks as we continue our break from posting new content in order to figure out the best way to steward and grow this community in 2021. We should be back with new articles later in January.

In the meantime, please help us shape what the coming year will look like by taking our Reader Survey, and catch up on our past articles, including the following articles that were the most read on our site in 2020:

Meghan Markle Is Becoming a Part-Time Royal and This Could Impact You

A year ago, the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle issued a statement that they intend to "step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family.” So, what does this have to do with us as Christians?

God Found Me in Hollywood

We hosted Paige Weslaski from Milk & Honey Magazine and she shared her testimony about how God changed her life.

What Does It Mean To Be A Help Meet?

What does it mean for a woman to be a helper? The word “helper” in Hebrew is “ezer.” In the Old Testament, this word was initially used in reference to the first woman created (Genesis 2:18). Then, in Exodus 18:4, Moses named his son Eliezer (meaning God my Help). After that, out of the total 21 occurrences in the Old Testament, 16 refer to God as the help. For example, in the Psalms, God is referred to as a helper of the victim, the fatherless, the needy and the afflicted (10:14, 72:12, 86:17).

When Your Heart Is Overwhelmed

Seeing this article in our top ten isn’t a surprise since “overwhelmed” was a feeling familiar to many in 2020, but Whitney Malloy has some good advice on how to battle feeling overwhelmed.

What Roses Taught Me About Guarding My Heart

A story about finding beauty and peace in the midst of heartbreak. You won’t look at roses the same way after reading this testimony!

Song of Solomon and the Single Woman

This article was written a couple years ago, but it’s consistently ranked as one of our most popular articles. God has so much to say on the issue of sex and one book in the Bible specifically shows the goodness of this incredible gift He gave to those who get married.

Glory to Grieve

In the midst of unspeakable tragedy, there begins the floodgates of memories—the beautifully painful memories of those we did not have enough time with, whose lives were cut short, but also memories to create anew. A friend’s recent Facebook post captured Hannah’s attention about the cycle, brevity, and finality of life, and how quickly life can be altered. How beautifully it can be created, and how it can be violently taken away.

Yours for the Taking

We all know the story: another wedding invitation, another text message about a friend’s graduate school acceptance, another pregnancy announcement, and another Facebook “in a relationship” status change. And all you can ask God is: “When will it be my turn?”

A Reminder When Negativity Takes Root

We’ve all heard the following phrase in some form. Maybe we’ve even said it ourselves: “Life happens and it isn’t always fair.” Yet, we can choose joy even when we feel something entirely different.

Why You Need to Let Go of Your Past

A few years ago, Hannah had the privilege of teaching God’s Word at the local women’s shelter and gave a glimpse of her story, hoping to encourage and strengthen their walks with Jesus. Later that night, fiercely overanalyzing everything she told them, these words became even more real: “Jesus not only saves us from our past but saves us from what we would have become.”

As always, I praying for you and always love hearing from y’all!

With love,
