What If Jesus Had Never Been Born? Review

One of my personal favorite things in theology is the study of apologetics. At Tirzah, we previously did an article that explains all things apologetics, which you can check out here. A brief definition for you in this moment is writings or words to justify one’s beliefs. The reason I just explained that to you is because Dr. James Kennedy’s documentary and book “What If Jesus Had Never Been Born?” is an apologetics book.

For those who may not be familiar with what this type of book entails - it fits into the realm of “Mere Christianity” by C.S. Lewis or “The Case for Christ” by Lee Strobel. These are two of the most popular books in Christian apologetics. Dr. James Kennedy, however, is the focus of today’s review. The book “What if Jesus Had Never Been Born?” has such a fascinating premise. There are people who frequently argue that Jesus never existed and Dr. Kennedy has chosen to take us through the history of our world and morals to see what that world would look like.

For me personally, I connected to Dr. Kennedy’s discourse on abortion and the value of life itself. We want to argue that we know is best, but in a world without Jesus would we really value life? If Jesus didn’t create us with unique and special purposes, why shouldn’t we kill each other? Much of our society’s mores on these issues have been created based on Biblical principles. Can we really ever argue that Jesus has not existed and that He has not affected us today?

In addition to searching out these conclusions, Dr. Kennedy takes us on a journey throughout key moments in time that JESUS was instrumental in changing the scene. He helps us imagine rewriting the world as we know it where decisions were made without the influence of the Gospel. I would encourage you, as a believer, to consider your life from this same perspective. How would your life alter if you had not chosen to follow Jesus and His rules? How was your life impacted by not following HIm & His teachings?

I highly recommend this book for it’s apologetics. I also appreciate that there is both a documentary and a book. If you are more of a visual person, you can watch the documentary instead. This is a great & different perspective to explore your faith more.
