It's The Climb
I just returned home from a trip out west with my family. We traveled to South Dakota and Wyoming seeing spectacular views, enjoying the outdoors and hiking strenuous trails. I always find a sense of peace when I am out there with no cell or Internet service, respecting and relishing in God’s creation.
While hiking, some of the trails had potential to be pretty treacherous. Getting to the top of each trail was never an easy feat. As we were hiking back from Lake Solitude in the Grand Tetons National Park (which is a hike I highly recommend), I started thinking — this is quite similar to being a follower of Christ. Often new, and even seasoned, Christians can fall prey to believing God will hand you things you desire.
In some cases this can be true; opportunities and blessings fall in our lap. But many times, we have to put in the work to receive God’s blessing. We have to pray and seek Him but also perform certain tasks to pave the way for God to open doors for us. We may have to send in the application and resume for our dream job, order the materials to start that new business, speak to the professor about the internship, brainstorm for the fundraiser for the church ministries, and make changes to our eating habits to become healthier.
When I get to the destination for a long hike, after many miles, my feet are tired, but my soul feels wide awake when I view the beautiful mountains and lake. A calmness and God’s presence is there. The same is true with being a Christian. You will still have hardship when following God, but thankfully, He will be with you on every path. After a trial, you can see how God held your hand and helped you climb the hike to get to your destination (Isaiah 41:13).

You have to put in the miles and the work to witness the amazing view at the top of a hike. As with life, you have to put in the work as well. Being a follower of Christ is not always an easy “hike,” but the “view” you gain is so worth it.
When you are facing a mountain, remember the climb is hard, but the reward will be worth it.
