Book Review: So Help Me God

This is a caveat that we do NOT endorse political candidates at Tirzah. We do endorse Biblical viewpoints when voting, but due to our belief of free will we educate people on political issues without endorsing candidates. It would be a violation of our current non - profit status to endorse candidates. There are times, however, where we are offered to do things like speak with political figures or read their books. So Help Me God is by Mike Pence - former Vice President of the United States of America.

This book was an inspirational read that we highly recommend. Within it, Pence addresses what it is like to have your faith influence your politics and how it shapes your viewpoint. He also discusses what it was like to have a public disagreement with your boss - who also happens to be the President of the United States. Through his book, you can see a commitment to follow the following Scripture:

Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.” - 1 Pet. 2:17

Pence publicly acknowledges at the beginning of his book how the beginning of his political career he did not show integrity when engaging in smear campaigns. He calls us to higher standards as Christians when engaging cultural hot topics and politics. There is discussion on why it’s important to respect everyone, prioritize family, and keep faith at the forefront. Throughout this book, he also discusses his faith journey and how it evolved throughout his life.

If you are interested in politics, this is a great read for you. If you find yourself to be someone who disagrees with Pence’s politics, read the book to have a fuller understanding of why he holds to his specific beliefs. When you are trying to navigate the political world, read a variety of candidates perspectives so you can learn more. Most importantly, let Jesus be the number one source to guide you in the world of politics.
