A Thrill of Hope Day 6: Psalm 22: 16-18

For dogs have surrounded me; a gang of evil dowers has closed in on me; they pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people look and stare at me. They divided my garments among themselves and they cast lots for my clothing. Ps 22:16-18

Those who love and seek the Lord hace a heavy burden in this world. We are called to be the “weird” ones who don’t fit in, and don’t subscribe to the ways of the world.

Our eyes are on heaven, but meanwhile down on earth, we pant for the realization of salvation. We know our reward is coming, but so often it can feel like perhaps we were deceived. The pull of the immediate things around us can seem brighter, shinier, louder than the glory of heaven.

This is where “the rubber meets the road”, so to speak. We endure the uncomfortable and somewhat embarrassing in exchange for what we know to be true. That God sees us in our distress, and that he has already declared victory over our assailants. There is indeed mourning now. But joy will come. There will be a day when all knees will bend, whether their hearts surrender to Jesus or not.

Until then, may ou heavy hearts humbly fear you as we call on your name in the mire of our physical realities, and confidently declare: Jesus is King!
