Speak Life

We all pictured 2020 to look a little different than this. As we’ve all been watching the news for weeks now, this pandemic has unfolded right in front of our eyes. Never, did it cross our minds that part of 2020 would be spent quarantined at home. As we watch the news from home, all we see is death and suffering. You start to wonder, when will this all end? Fear and worries come to our minds because you can’t help but start thinking what the future will look like. Where are we heading after this?

After watching the news day after day, I took my worries to God. As I prayed for everyone affected, and for the pandemic to cease. My own thoughts overtook my mind,  What’s going to happen after and how’s this going to look like when it’s over? I whispered to God, “Only you know what will happen”. As I went to bed God brought a verse to my mind. In Ezekiel 37 verses 3-6, God speaks to Ezekiel and shows him a valley of dry bones. God tells him,

He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[ enter you, and you will come to life. I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”

These verses were a clear answer to my question. “God, only you know”. God is the author of life. He can make dead and dry valleys come back to life. Just as Ezekiel was in the middle of a valley with lifeless bones, we’re facing a valley of death and uncertainty. I heard God speak into my heart and say, “Declare life, Speak life.”

As believers, we need to declare life, and speak life in the middle of this chaos. Just as God told Ezekiel to prophesy, as believers we must prophesy life into our families, communities, and our country. As we face uncertainty about the future, God reminds us that he is the author of life. He will, once again bring us back to life. Life into our families, our jobs, our church, our communities, our country, and the world.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” – John 10:10

This is why Jesus came to this Earth, he came to give Life. In the middle of this pandemic we have to declare life to our surroundings. God will once again attach what has been unattached. He will put breath into the things we think we have lost. These bones will live again, and then people will know, He is Lord. How can you breathe life into your community?
