Running Through the Fire

These days my idea of fun is going for a nice walk or sitting in a coffee shop writing. I’m drawn to activities where i can slow down, take it in, and just be in the moment. Not surprisingly, running for me is cruel and unusual punishment. I’ve run a handful of times in my twenty-four-years and I can only remember once that it was enjoyable. I ran today- 0.1 miles- and it completely wore me out. I’m the ‘0.0 I’m good’ personality.  If you ever see me running, you should start. I only run under dire circumstances; like if my house was on fire or if I was out running hot lava.

You would never find me running for fun, but if I did run, I would run through my season of singleness.

Like I said I don’t run so here, I am walking through singleness. I wish I could rush past this, but God has me in this season for a reason, and it’s only for a season. Seasons always change. After the winter comes the spring. We sometimes have to face the fire before we get the rain.  Walking through singleness means you might face some fires before the rain. But going through the fires makes dancing in the rain with your significant other and every blaze worth it.

Walking allows you to enjoy your surroundings, but if you’re focused on running to the next season, you blaze through the season you are in right now. When you run you forget what is around you. Walking allows you to look at the beauty along the way. If you run through life, you may miss out on God’s blessings.

Walking allows you to accept God’s blessings one step at a time. Singleness is a time to reflect on the blessings God has given you. That is something I need to work on. I have to practice looking for the good in these circumstances.  Walking through singleness is hard. It is not without disillusion, distraction, and disappointments, but it is all for our ultimate good.

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Singleness is a time for refining. How does a piece of coal become a diamond? Simple: by a long and hard process of refining. Singleness is a process of refining. It’s a time for God to mold you and make you into the future spouse you need to be. It has taken me years to be okay with my singleness. At times, I thought that I was being punished for my past mistakes through singleness. I thought because I had sinned I had to resign to flying through life without a partner. That is a lie Satan whispered into my head and I started to believe. Nothing is keeping you from finding love.  God may have you in this season because you need some refining.

Singleness is process and a time for refining . It’s a time for God to mold you and make you into the future spouse you need to be.

“And the vessel he was making of clay was spoiled in the potter's hand, and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to do.”
