Every Good Work in 2022

When I was young, I saw my mother on her knees on New year’s eve each year in the family room, praying for us. We would all attend the morning service at church as a family. The year was over.

There were fantastic shows on TV to herald in the New year, the sky was lit up with beautiful firecrackers and in the church across the road church bells chimed as worshippers filled the pews. As one year seamlessly slips into the next, what thoughts cross your mind?

The months and days stretch ahead empty, to be filled in. It looks like a new fresh diary book. We don’t know what lies ahead but God does.

What has God called us to do in 2022?

“For we are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”-Ephesians 2:10 NIV

Good works refers to what God has called us to do in this particular season of life. It may be a time of singleness, leading a Sunday School, changing diapers, preparing toddler meals, and keeping home, or being a loving and caring mother or daughter. Sometimes ‘ good works’ seem hard, boring, and stressful.

All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness so that the man of God My be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”-2 Timothy 3:16 -17 NIV

As we do the dishes, help with school work, catch up with friends, do the laundry God’s word helps us to do our best. When we spend time with God talking to him and reading and studying God’s word we are equipped to embrace each day of our life. No day goes by as just an ordinary day. For the child of God there is purpose and plan in every detail of life.

God is able to make all grace abound to you so that in all things at all times, having all you need, you will abound in every good work.”-2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV

This is one of my go -to verses of 2021. I paraphrase it as

“God gives me all grace at all times, I will have all I need And so I can do every good work (God has planned for me to do)”

Read and meditate on these verses.

Write down 3 points to carry with you into 2022.

Here are mine.

  1. God has planned my days.

  2. As I spend time with God’ word, I am equipped for the work ahead.

  3. God’s grace is all I need and it is available for me every day.
