Advent Word Study: Week Three

Day 1

The word for this week’s word study is SEEK.

Here are a few meanings placed in a biblical context for the word.

-  to orient yourselves to God

-  to pursue God rather than other goals

-  looking for the signs of His presence

Read Jeremiah 29:13 and write it out here.

Highlight the word SEEK in the above verse and replace it with the most suitable phrase which applies (choose from the above list of meanings).  Rewrite Jeremiah 29:13 below.

e.g.  Mt.7:7 - “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek (look for the signs of God’s presence), and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Jeremiah 29:13

Do the same for Matthew 6:33

Day 2

Write out the following verses.  Highlight words that stand out to you.  Discuss with your group.

Hebrews 11:6

Isaiah 51:1

Zechariah 8:22

Day 3

Look up the following verses and write them down.

Matthew 14:23 NIV

Hebrews 5:7 NIV

How did Jesus seek God according to the above two verses?

In what ways will you “seek God with all your heart”?

Day 4

Read Matt. 2:1-12.  What do the MAGI teach us about what it means to seek God?

Day 5

1)  Sit quietly in your garden or porch and write a psalm in response to what you have studied this week.

2)  Pick your favorite verse, memorize the same.  Write it on your bauble to hang.  Share this verse with your group.

3)  Pray for yourself and the people in your group, that we will SEEK God with all our hearts.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I have the privilege of living in New Zealand, one of the most beautiful countries in the world and truly a glimpse of paradise. After retiring from active service as a Personal Assistant 4 years ago, the Lord fulfilled my desire to serve in the mission field. I spent a few months in Fiji in 2018 serving destitute women in Lovu HART (Housing Assistance Relief Trust), a village complex that shelters single mothers (most of them Christian) with a meager income. It's heart-rending to see women struggling to survive and yet eager to learn more about our Lord and Saviour. During my time there besides tidying up the HART records and assisting in the office, I conducted Bible studies for the women, young adults, and kids in the village I lived in. I still keep in touch with the women there and hope to revisit again God-willing.
