3 Verses For When You Feel Stressed Out

Some days we feel like we have it all together, and other days we live life moment to moment. For a teacher, like myself, the end of the year is always an overwhelming time. The only thing I can really compare it to is the last week of college finals. Maybe you’re not a teacher or college student but you probably still have to work around deadlines, work obligations, home life, and maintaining your relationships. All of this can become extremely demanding and approaching these hectic periods is never easy.

Below are a few verses that have helped me through stressful times and busy seasons. I like to write them down on a post-it note or set them as the background on my phone. The easier they are to see, the easier it is to read and fill your heart with their promises. If you can commit these verses to memory, that’s even better! I hope that with the help of our Lord, these verses encourage you to keep moving forward through whatever stressful situation you might be going through.

Even today, this first verse remains on a post-it note in my bedroom. It has helped me get through a difficult point in my life when I felt like everything was falling apart and all I could do was walk with the Lord through it.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. Psalm 84:11

Whenever I feel physically weak, I bring this verse to mind. Whether I’m battling a sickness or a busy schedule, I ask the Lord to give me the strength I need for the day.

Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Isaiah 40:28-29

The entire book of Psalm 91 applies to troubling times, however, I’ll stick to sharing only the first two verses. It not only paints a picture of the Lord as a strong tower that keeps me safe, but also reminds me of a soft and cozy blanket that keeps me warm. As I read these verses when things are unsteady, I can’t help but feel safe in the hands of our Savior.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Psalm 91:1-2

I picked these verses to share with you all because they talk about God first, which is so important! While the entire Bible tells us about God, it’s important that we know who God is before all else. These verses remind me that He is my shield, He is everlasting, and He is the Most High. Even during the times that I might feel overwhelmed, these three verses assure me that God remains the same and He can be trusted to carry me through the stressful times.

What are your favorite verses that encourage you during stressful times?
