20 Ways to Give Generously This Holiday Season

This year has been anything but normal. And with the holidays around the corner, it’s safe to say our Thanksgivings and Christmases will probably look a little different than we’re used to. But, the good news is, you can still celebrate the holidays by serving others.

As Paul said in Acts 20:35 (NLT), “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Yes, getting that thing you really wanted for Christmas is great. But giving to others is so much more fun!

Here are 20 ways to give generously this holiday season. Some ask you to give of your finances, but many only ask you to sacrifice your time.

  1. Volunteer! VolunteerMatch helps you find a place to serve in your community.

  2. Send an encouraging letter to someone.

  3. Sponsor a child through Food for the Hungry or Compassion International.

  4. Purchase a Thanksgiving turkey for a family in need.

  5. Donate your clothes and gently-used items.

  6. Offer to babysit for free for a single mom.

  7. Join the serve team at your church.

  8. Donate blood.

  9. Let someone cut in front of you at the grocery store.

  10. Deliver groceries to an elderly or homebound neighbor.

  11. Volunteer your talents: Take photos of a family for free, tutor a high school student, etc.

  12. Spend time with your friends and family (without the distraction of your phone).

  13. Tip your baristas and waiters.

  14. Leave bottled drinks and snacks for your delivery men/women.

  15. Clean up your local park.

  16. Send a care package to a missionary or service member living overseas.

  17. Foster a dog or cat during the holidays.

  18. Buy gift cards, socks, and toiletry items to give to the homeless in your area.

  19. Pay for the order of the person behind you in the drive-thru.

  20. Support Tirzah!

We need to raise $300 to pay our website hosting fees in December. Will you consider making a donation to keep our doors open in 2021?

Remember, the holidays are about sharing the good news of Christ with others. May you give cheerfully this season and experience the joy of being the hands and feet of Jesus to those around you.

How do you plan to give generously this season?
