When Anger Washes Over
So many of us become lost in the heat of our emotions. How many times have you hurt someone and lost others, all because you were mad and frustrated? How many times have you let your words roll off your tongue without hesitating to wonder how they would impact the one you were speaking to?
CONTROL YOUR TEMPER, FOR ANGER LABELS YOU A FOOL ECCLESIASTES 7:9 (NLT)
All too often, we are inconsiderate and ignorant to how our sudden feelings will affect those who are the target of our anger. When you begin to feel your temper rising, breathe. Bite your tongue for a moment before you let out words that you cannot take back. The other person might deserve what you have to say, but we are not here to judge and put them in their place. We are here to love our neighbors, as hard as it can be, and leave the rest up to God. Do not become a fool in the midst of becoming angry. Let the feeling wash down the river. I promise acceptance and stillness are making their way down the river, to you, as well. What do you think would have happened if Esther had reacted to the news of Haman's plan to rid the kingdom of all the Jews? Through her silence, and patience to speak up without anger, God provided and kept her and her people safe. Trust God. We hear it so often, and you would think that every bone in our bodies would remember that, but in the heat of the moment, we forget. Which is why, I ask, that next time you feel anger rising, let it pass. Give the emotions to God, let him give you grace and peace. Let him be your shoulder and back bone. Trust in him.
DO NOT LET THE PAST DISTURB YOU - JUST LEAVE EVERYTHING IN THE SACRED HEART AND BEGIN AGAIN WITH JOY. -MOTHER TERESA
I know, it's a hard to leave things in the past. Many people hold grudges and negativity. I, on the other hand, need to release all of those ugly emotions. They do nothing to bring light and bliss into my life. I have been through too much to let anger ruin the joy I keep from day to day. I don't know about you, but I become sick if I do happen to hold in my frustration and rage. Physically sick. What would be the use of holding those feelings in, when I know they will weaken my body? We make choices in life to become healthier, spiritually and physically. So, why would I choose to be weak? I don't. I let it go, as often as I can. I choose to be healthy and content with God's grace and mercy for me.
HE WILL BE OUR PEACE MICAH 5:5 (NIV)
Trust me, I know just how easy it is to say, "But they deserve this," "It's their fault," "They did it to me." Faith isn't easy, though. We are challenged to give up our worries and conflicts to God. We need to. There is nothing we can say or do to set the other person where they need to be, whether they deserve it or not. In the end, God is our judge. Allow God to rest your thoughts and wash over you with his grace. There is such beauty in surrendering to a God who knows your name and story, who knows how to heal you and where to lead you. Trust in Him. He is for you.
